The first experiment of implanting a chip in the human brain seems to have failed. Last month, Elon Musk’s company Neuralink had surgically implanted this brain chip in the brain of a person. It was claimed that blind people would be able to see through the chip. Paralysis patients will be able to walk and also operate computers. The company named this chip ‘Link’. The company had also shared a video, in which this person was seen operating the computer through a chip. But now the company says that there is a fault in the chip. The company has said that it will conduct such an experiment again.
According to the New York Post report, Neuralink said in a blog post on Wednesday that we had implanted a brain chip in the brain of a paralyzed 29-year-old patient. Which was also working well. Just last month, we also livestreamed a nine-minute video of Arbaugh showing how this technology works. But now it has come to light that there is some fault in the chip. That’s why we have taken back some threads from his brain. Now we are not able to measure how much work its electrodes and threads are doing. However, it is not yet clear how many threads have been damaged.
There are 64 threads in the chip
Neuralink’s chip has 64 threads, which contain 1,024 electrodes. These threads are thinner than a strand of human hair. They have been programmed to collect data about the neural activity of the brain. Whatever a person thinks, they decode it and send it to the computer. It is controlled from there. When this brain chip was installed, it was said that it would make the human brain run through a computer.
Musk had said – patient’s recovery is better
The person in whom this brain chip was implanted was seriously injured in an accident. Because of this he was in the grip of paralysis. He is paralyzed from shoulder down. He cannot do his work properly. He was selected to use the chip. Just a few days ago, Musk had said that the patient’s recovery is better. Initial results are promising. However, the report that has come now has dealt a blow to the company’s expectations.
